Mediation Training

In the summer of 2006 and the winter of 2007, the Institute for Legal and Policy Studies conducted Mediator Training for attorneys seeking to become mediators in child custody and visitation cases in court. The Institute established these trainings in order to assist the Seventh Judicial Circuit and other downstate Circuits in complying with newly implemented Illinois Supreme Court rules, which require each judicial circuit to divert child custody and visitation cases to mediation prior to adjudicating the cases. The Institute delivered two 20 hour mediator training programs specially targeted for attorneys already experienced in child custody and visitation litigation. The attorneys were awarded Mandatory Continuing Legal Education credits for their participation, in addition to being certified as Child Custody and Visitation Mediators.

No additional mediator training programs have been scheduled at this time.
